WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
- The Good News, or “Gospel” is that God loves us and wants us to spend eternity with him in heaven. John 3:16
- The Bad News is that we’re all sinners, Romans 3:23 and the penalty for sin is death, but God offers us eternal life as a gift. Romans 6:23.
- This is possible because Jesus Christ paid the penalty for us by dying on the cross. Romans 5:8
- However, a gift doesn’t become ours until we accept it!
- To accept God’s gift, we must admit to ourselves and to God that we really are sinners and that there is nothing we can do to earn heaven. Ephesians 2:8,9
- Once we have come to this realization, we need to be willing to turn from sin (repent) Acts17:30-31 and humbly receive the gift of salvation. This is done by confessing Jesus as our Lord and believing that God has raised him from the dead.
- Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
